Ross must turn to Matthews and Honeyman today - Sunderland

Sunderland won’t want to get too ahead of themselves at this stage in their League One campaign, as they still need to make the most of their two games in hand.

The Black Cats have arguably one of the strongest squads in the league this season, so supporters will expect nothing less than promotion straight back to the Championship.

Although, they face a tough test later on today as they’ll welcome Shrewsbury to the Stadium of Light. The Robins have been rather impressive in the league recently, so Jack Ross will need to rally his troops if they are to secure the three points they desperately need.

Nevertheless, Ross will give fans a late Xmas present if he turns to these TWO stars today…

Adam Matthews should arguably be playing at a higher level having established himself as one of the standout performers in League One this season.

The right-back has one goal and six assists to his name at this moment in time, and he has also been solid in defence as a well-rounded defender.

So, with a tough side coming up next, Matthews will be looking to keep Jack Payne under wraps.

George Honeyman has really come into his own in the current campaign as one of the most promising players in the whole of English football, with an impressive amount of goals and assists to his name.

The attacker has shown great maturity levels as the club’s captain at the age of 24, with the Black Cats’ promising position being partly down to how he has performed and led the team this season.

He will make life very difficult for Shrewsbury’s defenders, with his skill, pace and passing ability helping provide chances for his teammates and bringing the best out of himself.
