Jack Ross now has a busy January transfer window on his hands.
Upon their return to League One action, Sunderland will be looking to distance themselves from the play-off spots and get even closer to Portsmouth at the top of the League.
With two games in hand on both Pompey and Luton Town, if they win both that would put them just one point behind the table toppers, putting them under even more pressure to perform.
A helping hand to winning these games and potentially winning the League would be some additions in the transfer window. With that in mind, Ross should now go out and look to get this DUO in January…
The Black Cats’ fans will be more than aware that Josh Maja has rejected a new contract at Sunderland, despite owner Stewart Donald saying that Maja has said yesterday to Ross that he will sign the improved deal.
Given that Maja has started in 20 of his 22 appearances so far this season in the League, scoring 14 goals, he will need to be replaced if he does go in January.
A solid replacement would be Gillingham’s Tom Eaves who, like Maja, has scored 14 League goals this season and is the perfect poacher to take Sunderland to the Championship, baring in mind Eaves has been netting regularly in a struggling Gills side.
Sunderland are in need of centre-back reinforcements to help them back on their way to the Championship, and Jack Hendry could be the answer.
The 23-year-old has fallen out of favour at Celtic Park. Hendry has made 14 appearances so far for Celtic, but none since late October with Kristoffer Ajer preferred on the bench rather than the Scotsman.
As Hendry only moved to Glasgow from Dundee a year ago, a permanent move is unlikely, however, a loan move would allow his qualities to be put to good use in the North East, and allow Hendry to develop as a player with regular game time.
