Hello once again from the Transfer Tavern where Sunderland fans have been camped out hoping to hear some good news during the Transfer Window.
The Black Cats are in desperate need of a major rebuild following their relegation to League One. New boss Jack Ross needs to bring in some heavy summer reinforcements. At the back, Sunderland are in dire need of help and the latest player the club have been linked with is Leeds defender Paudie O’Connor.
The Black Cats have been linked with a host of defenders recently and according to Leeds Live, Leeds are willing to let young defender Paudie O’Connor go out on loan this season. The Yorkshire club are keen to give the 21-year-old some game time and it looks likely that they will consider a move to a League One side rather a Championship one.
Leeds are set to offer the Irishman a new contract before loaning him out, and sending him to Sunderland would seem a great option. The Black Cats are threadbare at the back and are in desperate need of numbers to shore up a defence that leaked 80 goals in the Championship.
Tall and a physical defender, O’Connor has drawn comparisons to Leeds fan favourite, Pontus Jansson.
With Lamine Kone likely to leave the club, O’Connor offers some vital depth at the back. Moreover, as he is not on huge wages, the cost of the loan deal would be relatively minimal for the Wearside club. A loan deal makes sense for all parties involved.
