Our Sunderland fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still trying to come to terms with the debacle that was their last season in the Premier League, however, they may be encouraged by news reaching the bar today.
According to reports from The Times the Black Cats owner Ellis Short has called on top football consultant, Dr Keith Harris, to help engineer the sale of the club.
Harris, who is currently a director at Everton, has also advised on dealings involving the sale of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Fulham and West Ham.
The Times also claim that, whilst the club have called on Harris for help, talks are already underway with a German consortium and are progressing well.
The north east outfit are dropping into the second tier for the first time in over a decade, however, our landlord here in the Tavern thinks that Short selling up could be the only way to ensure a return to the Premier League comes around sooner rather than later.
Whoever takes charge at the Stadium of Light will have to make big decisions very quickly, with a successor to departed manager David Moyes needing to be named before any other business can be dealt with.
Sunderland fans, how happy would you be to see Short sell up? Let us know below…Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
