The 30-year-old is up against Gillingham’s Alex Jakubiak, Coventry City pair Marko Marosi and Michael Rose, Ipswich Town’s James Norwood and Peterborough United’s Ivan Toney in the running to win the award.
Maguire has scored a total of four goals so far this season, with three of those coming in a hat-trick against AFC Wimbledon, when he was given a rating of 9 by SofaScore for his performance.
His other goal was also vital for Sunderland, as he bagged what turned out to be the winner in a 2-1 victory at home against Portsmouth.
Outside of his league contributions, Maguire assisted Marc McNulty’s opener in the 3-1 Carabao Cup win against Accrington Stanley.
He missed the Black Cats’ match with Peterborough United and it is perhaps no coincidence that this is the game in which they lost their first match of the campaign, eventually being beaten 3-0.
Maguire definitely deserves his nomination for the PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award, having shown his worth to Sunderland over the early stages of the campaign.
Jack Ross will be hoping to get the 30-year-old back into his side as soon as possible, so that he can continue the impact he has already had in the early stages of this season.
