Sunderland are plotting a move for former Swansea City left-back Martin Olsson.
According to Football Insider, the League One side have had the Swedish international on their radar for some time, and following the summer departures of Reece James and Bryan Oviedo, Jack Ross is in the market for a new left-back.
Olsson was released by Swansea this summer following the expiration of his contract with the Championship side.
With Sunderland in need of a left-back, Olsson could be one of the best options available in the market for the Black Cats.
Olsson is a left-back with an abundance of experience in the Premier League following spells with Swansea, Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers.
Looking at his numbers on Transfermarkt, the 31-year-old defender has made 197 Premier League appearances across the three sides he has played for, with positional stats showing that at least 124 of these appearances came playing at left-back in the English top-flight, and this amount of experience will be much welcomed for Sunderland playing in League One.
Bringing in a left-back is seemingly a priority for Ross this summer, and with Olsson available on the market, the Sunderland manager will find it hard to discover another defender with as much experience in both domestic and international football than the Swede.
With Ross previously stating to the Chronicle that he is more focused on keeping clean sheets this season than scoring more goals, signing Olsson would be a step in the direction the Sunderland boss is aiming to take the club this term.
