It’s been a thoroughly miserable campaign so far for the Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve watched on as their side continue to struggle against what seems like an imminent relegation.
Though the Black Cats propping up the bar have previous in wasting away towards the bottom of the league, this term feels like the longest slog for them as the weary Wearsiders drown their sorrows. So, with so little to get excited about, confirmation on their official website about someone leaving the Stadium of Light has at least provided something different to talk about.
They’ve announced defender Sebastian Coates has permanently left David Moyes’ side to link up with Sporting Lisbon, making his loan agreement a more finite affair. During two spells in red and white, the Uruguayan made 32 appearances for the North East side after joining from Liverpool.
However, he was loaned out to the Portuguese capital in the summer and that deal has now been sealed, with the Sunderland supporting punters never likely to shed a tear over the 26-year-old’s exit.
