According to Italian outlet Gazzamercato (via Sport Witness) AC Milan representatives were at last night’s Champions League game between Sporting Lisbon and Real Madrid, with on-loan Sunderland man Sebastian Coates reportedly catching their attention.
Our Black Cats fans here in the Transfer Tavern had almost forgotten he was still technically their’s this season, but he is only with the Portuguese side temporarily.
It appears, though, he could be set for a permanent move away with him impressing in Portugal this season and the Rossoneri are apparently keen on securing his services too.
Sporting do have the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season for a set fee but if they do decide against it and David Moyes deems the Uruguayan surplus to requirements, he may be able to cash in and spark a bidding war for the centre-half.
Things have never really worked for the Uruguayan in the Premier League with an unsuccessful spell at Liverpool also on his CV and so he’d probably more than likely jump at the chance of closing the English chapter of his career at the earliest possible moment
Coates has made ten appearances so far in the Portuguese top flight, scoring three goals.
