Sunderland eyeing former man in bid to have good season in Championship

Our Sunderland fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Simon Grayson is going to deliver a positive season for their club in 2017/18.

The Black Cats have had very little to shout about in recent years and that culminated in the fact that the club was relegated last season from the Premier League.

Grayson, then, is the man tasked with trying to reverse that and get them back into the top flight and, according to The Daily Mail, he is aiming to bring in Martyn Waghorn as part of that.

The striker is currently at Rangers but knows English football well and particularly Sunderland after coming through their academy when he was a young player.

He might be up for the challenge of getting Sunderland back into the big-time, then, but he may also fancy staying at Rangers to try and knock Celtic off of their current perch.

Waghorn is from the north-east area, though, and that could swing things as Grayson looks to find a replacement for Jermain Defoe who left this summer for Bournemouth.

Landlord’s Verdict

Waghorn is the kind of player that Sunderland could do with.

In being a fairly local boy and someone who knows the club, it’s likely that he knows all about what it means to play and to put in effort for the fans.

Sunderland supporters are craving to see more of that, then, and so Waghorn could be the ideal man to try and bring in.
