Plenty of Sunderland fans have reacted to the news that their former player Darron Gibson has been released from his contact with Salford City.
After a decision to bring the League Two season to an end, the former Manchester United and Sunderland man was among 11 other players to be released from Salford. Having joined the club on a six-month loan deal in February from Wigan Athletic last summer, the Irish midfielder will now look for a new club this summer.
Gibson, a Premier League winner during his time at Old Trafford, is remembered for all the wrong reasons during his time at Sunderland, during which he was involved in various off-field incidents.
During his time at the Stadium of Light, the midfielder made just 30 appearances, having had various spells on the sidelines through injury, a moment in his career which was documented via Netflix series Sunderland Til I Die.
Reacting to the news via Facebook group Sunderland AFC Fans Group, these fans commented on Gibson’s release and his time on Wearside…
Kieran Richardson: Stewart Donald has already called him
Andrew Johnson: And?
Sean Swan: Bring him home?
Stephen Gaze: Football scrapheap
Kevin Dryden: What was he in for
John Pearson: Car crash waiting to happen
