Sunderland: Fans love club tweet showing Jermain Defoe’s goal against Chelsea - Sunderland

A lot of Sunderland fans are loving footage tweeted out by the club showing Jermain Defoe scoring in a 3-2 victory against Chelsea in the Premier League.

The Black Cats were a goal down going into half time, but managed to take the lead in the second half, with Defoe’s strike proving to be the winner, via BBC Sport,

The game, which was back in May 2016, was pivotal to the club’s survival in England’s top flight that season, with the result taking them out of the relegation zone with only two games to go.

Defoe, who had formally played for Tottenham Hotspur, managed 93 games for Sunderland, scoring 37 goals, per Transfermarkt.

He was a big part of the club staying in the Premier League whilst he was at the Stadium of Light as he managed 15 league goals in two consecutive seasons. Clearly his averages of 2.6 shots and 2.7 shots per game in both the 2015/16 and 2016/17 season retrospectively, via WhoScored, were rewarded.
