Sunderland suffered a shock defeat in Sky Bet League One last night to Bristol Rovers in a game that could well leave the automatic promotion hopes in doubt.
Of course, they are not far off points-wise but having played a game more than most and with them at the bottom of a gaggle of clubs going for the top two, their task has been made harder by the loss.
That is what has happened, though, and it’s now up to Parkinson and the players to pick themselves up and go again, though very few on the pitch impressed last night and changes could be needed.
One man that earned a bit of credit, though, was Antoine Semenyo who fans got a rare chance to see in red and white.
And, though overall the performance wasn’t good from the team, he earned a bit of praise on social media – let’s look at that now:
None of these players, Semenyo aside, deserve an ounce of credit tonight. They’ve disgraced the badge with their ineptitude, and most likely thrown away promotion as a result of their dismal performance tonight. One of the worst nights for a very long time. #SAFC 🔴⚪️

Honestly Semenyo is the only one who deserves any credit tonight. At least he's having a go. #safc

Had 1 decent performance all night and that’s from semenyo. #SAFC

Fair play Bristol Rovers, deserved the W, none of our players showed up, no build up just kept belting it up field wasting possession. Semenyo only player with fight in him, bye Championship football, next season is more League 1 #SAFC

Absolutely disgraceful that. Not 1 of them can come away with any credit. Semenyo looked dangerous 1st half but didn't have a kick 2nd. Rest of them pathetic. Gutless. Parkinson really needs to lay into them. #bristolrovers won every 2nd ball, played well & deserved win #SAFC

Barely any #SAFC players can look at themselves after that. Semenyo & Scowen maybe 🤷♂️
But in general they let themselves get bullied by Bristol Rovers. While the result is embarrassing, they wanted it much more & deserved it.
Everyone at the club needs to take responsibility.
