Sunderland fans on Twitter devastated at Watmore blow

With both Luton Town and Portsmouth winning last night, both Barnsley and Sunderland fans were desperate for three points as they clashed at Oakwell. The game was a disappointing one as it ended 0-0, yet it was nowhere near as disappointing as the news of Duncan Watmore’s season-ending injury, that was confirmed by Jack Ross at full-time.

The 25-year-old winger suffered a nasty injury during the Mackem’s clash with Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday when Marcus Bean scythed him down just minutes after the Black Cat’s #14 had scored a late, late equaliser. Instantly the winger went down holding his ankle and whilst the fans may not have feared the worst initially, the verdict on the blow is 8-12 weeks of recovery.

As things stand, it looks like Barnsley and Luton Town will be the two clubs going up, yet if Sunderland, without Watmore, can win their game in hand then they’ll go within one point of the second-placed Tykes with just seven games left to play. The promotion picture is still as open as it could be, yet whether or not Jack Ross’ side can get over the line now they’ve lost Watmore, just months after he returned from a debilitating knee injury, remains to be seen and the fans are truly gutted.

You can see exactly what those gutted fans made of the Watmore news here:

The Black Cats cannot wait to have a fully fit Watmore tearing up either League One or the Championship next season, and have full faith that he can get back to his very best in red and white.
