At times this season, Sunderland have drawn games that they should never have drawn. With 16 stalemates this season the Black Cats have drawn more games than any of the other 91 clubs in the football league. However, sometimes a draw is a great result, and last night at Oakwell was one of those times.

This season, Barnsley are yet to lose a League One game at Oakwell having won 12 and drawn six of their 18 home league games. The home fans would all have been desperate to continue their impressive form with a win, yet with promotion rivals Sunderland in town it wasn’t going to be easy. When all was said and done though, Jack Ross’ side will definitely be the happier of the two bosses to have got a result.
Whilst a win would have taken the Mackems to within just one point of the Tykes, the fans have to be realistic. The conditions and the form book were against them going into the clash, and as they have a game in hand they can still go within a point of the 2nd placed side, so just the fact that they’re still in it and didn’t succumb to defeat against Daniel Stendel’s side is an achievement in itself.
You can read the Black Cat’s verdict on their well-earned point here:
Clean sheet and no loss to the most in form team in the league at the minute. 5/6 players out injured, awful wind, whys everyone complaining

I'll settle for that. Not ideal but gotta make that game in hand pay.

Genuinely think psychologically we get the boost here. They were at home and they saw this as their chance to finish us off. It’s not often that teams stop them scoring at home. Think this will be seen as a good result

a good point that tonight man stop complaining

But it’s not a bad result at all… Win this game in hand and we have a chance …plenty more games to go still

Not the worst result ever. Certainly still in with a chance of automatic promotion with our game in hand.

The Mackems know that this was a good point and will now be desperate to win their game in hand to take themselves just one point off of Barnsley.
