With the transfer window heading into the final month, Sunderland appear to be playing a risky game with Jon McLaughlin.

The Scottish goalkeeper is heading into the final year of his current deal at the Stadium of Light, and speaking recently to the Chronicle, Sunderland’s reigning Player of the Year has admitted a new contract is yet to be tabled.
McLaughlin played over 50 games for Sunderland last season (per Transfermarkt) as the Black Cats made it to the League One play-off final. However, the northeast side were beaten by Charlton 2-1 in an entertaining contest at Wembley Stadium.
Despite being one of Sunderland’s standout performers last season, some fans were puzzled as to why the former Hearts goalkeeper had not been offered a new deal yet, and supporters took to social media to make their feelings known.
Here is what some Sunderland fans on Twitter had to say…
How worrying is this? Can read all sorts into it.. are we that skint we can’t get him a reasonable contact? Or are we selling him and waiting for a decent offer? What ever it is it’s not looking good

Bit of a gamble when clubs are after him

Hopefully it’s because they are prioritising signings

That’s probably gonna be a canny contract considering what he could get if he walks away for free! Can see this being like the Maja situation last year. Hopefully not though and will be a good sign if we get something sorted.

Hope they’re not just going to keep offloading our better players then, if told finances are decent then we shouldn’t need to if they’re wanting to get us back up otherwise we’ll end up in a relegation battle in this league.

Not jumping on the ‘supporters that moan about the colour of the sky bandwagon’ but this is genuinely a worry..

Be mad not to keep him
