Sunderland will have to wait for their next chance to try and win a football match with them not playing until Boxing Day in Sky Bet League One.
The Black Cats have not had a good season so far and since changing manager from Jack Ross to Phil Parkinson they have seen form get worse.
It’s not been a good period for them, then, and there is plenty of work to do to get into the play-offs in League One but at least they have the size and reputation that, if they can get on a run, they could become hard to stop.
Even so, under Parkinson it’s currently hard to make a case for them to do that but at least some off-field news has brought a smile to the faces of the Sunderland faithful.
Two new non-executive directors have joined the club in Tom Sloanes and David Jones and the former has sent this message out on Twitter:
As a Sunderland lad & lifetime @SunderlandAFC supporter, it is a privilege & honour to be invited to work alongside @DavidJonesSky & the SAFC Board. Looking forward to getting stuck in. Thanks for the messages lets "Keep The Red Flag Flying High" #HawayTheLads #Sunderlandtillidie

Let’s take a look at the reaction:
First positive news we've had for a while, Tom. Good luck.

As I replied to @DavidJonesSky, good luck in the role.
We neeed people who have the long term success of the club in mind, with the strategy to make that happen, and the contacts to make it a realistic prospect.
We need a rebuild for the future, at all levels of the club.
