Sunderland: Fans react to Lee Cattermole’s latest contract development - Sunderland

These Sunderland fans have said they would bring Lee Cattermole back to the club after news that he was released from his contract with VVV Venlo.

The 32-year-old midfielder called time on his 10-year spell with the Black Cats last summer to take on a spell with Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Making 11 appearances over the course of 2019/2020 season for his new club, Cattermole’s future became uncertain when the Dutch league came to a close prematurely due to the ongoing pandemic.

question mark

Which Sunderland manager has the best win percentage of all time?

With financial constraints on clubs both in Holland and across Europe due to the postponement of football, Venlo made the decision not to renew the former Sunderland man’s contract, meaning he is now available on a free transfer.

Having joined the Black Cats in 2009, the former Wigan man spent a decade at the Stadium of Light, featuring in eight Premier League campaigns in the process, before dropping down to the Championship and then, League One.

Sunderland, who sit seventh in the League One table as things stand, will miss out on a play-off place if the season is ended via a points-per-game system, however, that is yet to be decided.

Reacting to the news via Twitter account @sunechosafc, fans revealed if they would take Cattermole back at the club and below are just some of the responses.
