Sunderland: Fans react to links with former striker Mikael Mandron

Sunderland are in pole position to sign former striker Mikael Mandron, according to Football Insider.
The Black Cats are on the verge of another season in League One, sitting just outside the play-off places and unsure over the return of football due to the recent pandemic.
With current owner Stewart Donald keen to sell the club, fans will undoubtedly be preparing themselves for another summer of uncertainty, having suffered relegation from the Premier League down to England’s third tier over recent years.
Whilst those aforementioned concerns continue, the Wearside club does continue to be linked to some new faces, including former striker Mandron, who is currently playing for Gillingham.
The 25-year-old is available on a free transfer in the summer and Football Insider claim that officials from Sunderland are keen to bring him back to the club, having watched him develop after leaving in 2016.

Mandron has scored six goals from 28 appearances for the Gills this season, including an impressive brace prior to football’s suspension.
Aside from playing for Sunderland during his career, Mandron has also featured for Colchester United, Fleetwood Town, Hartlepool United, Wigan Athletic and Shrewsbury Town.
Responding to a question asked by Transfer Tavern’s Ben Crump via Facebook group Sunderland AFC Fans Group which asked: “What do we think about this?”, sharing Football Insider’s article in the process, fans gave a response, with some comparing him to current striker Charlie Wyke.
Rob Day: Is he better than Wyke?
Craig Scott: Charlie Wyke scored 15 goals in League One with Bradford in 2017/2018
Thomas Cheesman: Think him and Wyke should play up top together
Jase Ashman: Are you just forgetting about Lafferty, who scored twice on his debut against Mandron’s current team?
Matthew Laidlow: I’d accept it as long A: We get rid of some of the dross we have currently and B: He is not the only striking option we have
Lee Farrell New: Average player, scored more goals than Grigg and he is known as French Mackem Slayer coz we did not give him a chance before and now he wants us down
