Sunderland: Fans scared what injury to Bailey Wright might mean for their season

A number of Sunderland fans have reacted to the news that Bailey Wright could be facing a period of time on the sidelines following an injury he picked up in the win against Oxford United on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle Chronicle reporter James Hunter relayed a quote from Phil Parkinson on Twitter when asked about the Australian’s injury and stated: “PP: Ankle ligament injury for Wright. ‘It doesn’t look good.’”, which has sent a number of the club’s faithful into a frenzy.
Indeed, the 27-year-old international joined the Black Cats in January on a loan deal from Bristol City, and appears to have been rather solid at the back as he has played a crucial role in helping them climb the League One table. In his five appearances in the competition to date, he has managed an average of 0.6 tackles, 0.4 interceptions and a mammoth 4.4 clearances per game for the Mackems (per WhoScored).
Wright carried on with that good form in the game against Oxford on Saturday as well, as he produced three clearances and blocked one shot before being forced to withdraw from proceedings with just under ten minutes left to be played.
Fans were devastated by the news that the defender could be set to miss a period of action, with many stating that he had made a difference to Parkinson’s side and that they all felt he would be a big absentee for them moving forward.
Here are just some of their reactions…
Will be a big miss, he’s been solid and we’ve looked solid with him in the side
