Sunderland figure says this is the key to their survival

As quoted by The Sunderland Echo, first team coach Robbie Stockdale has said that Sunderland are showing the fight that can keep them in the Premier League this season, with our resident Black Cats fans here in the Transfer Tavern hoping for much better performances for the rest of the season.

The Wearside outfit have struggled this year and are currently bottom of the league, level on points with Swansea City, having only won one game this season.

That victory was, in fact, last time out against Bournemouth as the Wearsiders held on to victory on the south coast and Stockdale believes it is that kind of performance and the characteristics shown with it, that will help them over the course of the season. He said:

“Sometimes it’s the way you win games as much as the way you lose them”, he said.

”On Mondays after games when you concede late goals it feels like a kick in the guts, you can get deflated sometimes.

”Then there are games when you feel you probably deserved more than you got. So to win in those circumstances feels better than a normal win. It was overdue, we have under-achieved, we should have been sat on more points, that’s pretty clear.”

Sunderland head into this weekend knowing regardless of their result they will still be in the bottom three but face a potential six-pointer against Hull City that could prove crucial in the fight for survival.

It’s a fixture that’s got our Black Cats fans here by the bar excited with one saying: “We’ve got some momentum now and I think if we beat Hull, we can really start looking upwards instead of down.”

Having pulled off great escapes in the past, it could well be another nervy season at the Stadium of Light.
