Sunderland will be looking to start their League One campaign off in a positive fashion, however, they open the season with former Premier League foes Charlton Athletic.
The two sides meet on Saturday in the lunchtime kick-off at the Stadium of Light as Jack Ross looks set to take charge of his first competitive match with the Black Cats.
However, his task to come away with a positive result will not have been made any easier as he has a number of injury concerns.
Reece James, Tom Flanagan, Aiden McGeady, Duncan Watmore, Ethan Robson and Charlie Wyke are all expected to miss the game against Charlton.
Dylan McGeouch, who is another of Ross’ signings this summer, is rated as a doubt as he looks to recover from a calf injury he picked up during their pre-season match with Middlesbrough.
Sunderland will have been encouraged by their performances in pre-season and will be looking to take that form into League One.
The Black Cats have a squad full of new players this season and Ross will be hoping his side can make an impact from the beginning of the campaign.
However, with the number of key figures out of the opening match, a positive result against Charlton could be difficult for them to obtain.
