Sunderland could be about to offload one of the players they have been trying to get rid off for the majority of the summer.
The midfielder has not yet featured for Jack Ross since his arrival in the summer and is thought to be one of the players the manager wants to offload from his hefty wage bill.
The Gabon international has failed to set the Stadium of Light alight following his £14.4million move from Lorient in 2016 and was even loaned out to Premier League outfit Watford last season.
However, it has not been specified whether Benfica want the 28-year-old on a temporary basis, or if they are considering to make a permanent deal for the midfielder.
Sunderland will be delighted to be able to get Ndong off their wage cost this summer.
The midfielder has had a poor career at the Stadium of Light and does not appear to be in the future plans of Ross.
The Black Cats will be hoping they can strike a permanent deal with Benfica for the 28-year-old as they can then use the finances used to ease the pressures they currently have following back-to-back relegations to League One.
