Jack Ross could look to improve his Sunderland side in the January transfer window as they continue their push to win promotion to the Championship.
The Black Cats are currently in a great position to head straight back into the second tier as they continue to put the pressure on Portsmouth and Luton Town.
However, with the transfer window now open, it appears as though Ross could be looking to add to his defensive ranks.
The defender is thought to be available for a loan spell away from the Scottish Premiership champions, with the Black Cats, Pompey and Bradford City all credited with an interest.
Sunderland already have one of the tightest defences in the third tier, having shipped just 23 goals in their 24 games so far – with Barnsley just conceding one fewer than them.
Hendry, who is also a Scotland international, did have his opportunities to play under Brendan Rodgers during the beginning of the season, however, his performances did leave some questions at times.
The 23-year-old, who was a £1.5million signing from Dundee 12 months ago, has struggled to make a real impact and could benefit from a loan spell in England’s League One and could help Sunderland achieve promotion to the Championship.
