There have been more than a few embarrassing episodes for Sunderland this season, yet Tuesday night might have just been the worse one of all for the club.

The Black Cats fell to a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City’s U-21 side in the EFL Trophy (per the Chronicle), as Sunderland threw away a 1-0 lead against the Premier League side’s development team at home in what is likely going to go down as one of the League One club’s worst defeats of the season.
And as you would expect, the full-time whistle was met with hoards of Sunderland fans on social media slamming the club for their dreadful performance against the Premier League 2 side, with supporters making it clear that this might be the Black Cats’ lowest point during their era as a League One club.
Here’s what Sunderland fans had to say on Twitter about the loss to Leicester’s U-21 side, with lots of supporters fuming with the club for falling to the hands of a youth team…
Well done to their Academy lads but that was utterly shambolic Sunderland – you should be ashamed of yourselves. No hope. This just gets worse.

If we won, nobody would care
We lose and it’s embarrassing
The club can’t win.

The minimum requirement as a footballer is to give 100%. Not one player could say they did that tonight. Should be desperate to show the manager they should be the first name on the team sheet for the next game.
