Sunderland have been linked with a plethora of managers since letting go of Jack Ross, and Gareth Ainsworth is the latest name on their list, according to BBC Three Counties.
Will Jack Ross finish the season at Sunderland?
Their Radio Sports Editor, Geoff Doyle, has even suggested that Wycombe Wanderers have given the 46-year-old permission to speak to the Black Cats:
We (@BBC3CR) understand Wycombe Wanderers has given Gareth Ainsworth permission to speak to Sunderland. We believe Wycombe board wouldn’t stand in his way after the job he’s done at Adams Park. #SAFC #SkyBetLeagueOne #Wycombe

However, this isn’t a move that many Sunderland seem to be keen on, judging by the responses to the report, while there was also a similar response to links with Paul Cook and Mark Robins.
This indicates that Black Cats fans have been left very underwhelmed by the managerial links so far, with some even feeling that they would rather have Ross than some of the proposed replacements.
The dismissal of the Scotsman, with the club sitting sixth in League One, has arguably put more pressure on the club to get promoted, so Stewart Donald will need to get this right – something Sunderland fans may suggest isn’t happening at the moment.
