Duncan Watmore scored against Grimsby Town in the EFL Trophy to help Sunderland beat the League Two outfit.
Happy Jack Ross has gone?
The 25-year-old’s goal came when he flew in to get the rebound from a long-range shot, nipping in ahead of the goalkeeper and defenders to convert, as seen in the highlights video on the Sunderland AFC YouTube channel.
Sunderland’s official Twitter account were understandably enthused following Watmore’s strike:
Watmore is razor sharp to pounce on the loose ball inside the area!

Many Black Cats fans were excited to see Watmore on the pitch in red and white, let alone the scoresheet, as this was the first time he has played since his half an hour spell against Oxford United on the opening day of the season, as per Transfermarkt.
This comes after he missed a total of 106 games between the 2016/17 and 2018/19 campaigns, so the hope for him now is that he will be able to stay fit and available.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the goal, including posts from encouraged Sunderland fans, can be seen below:
Never doubted him
