Sunderland: Many fans have been drooling over Luke O’Nien’s performance

Luke O’Nien has once again proven to be a popular figure among plenty of Sunderland fans, having scored the only goal of the game against Southend United.

The 24-year-old got on the end of a Denver Hume ball into the box with one of his trademark diving headers, sending it past Nathan Bishop, as shown in the highlights video on the Southend United Football Club YouTube channel.

In addition to getting his goal, O’Nien made 1 tackle, 1 clearance, 1 interception, 2 key passes, won 4 aerial duels and maintained a pass success rate of 81%, as per WhoScored.

Following the game, the fan favourite spoke about how pleased he was to have got the goal and win on the club’s official channels:

Many Sunderland fans were delighted with the 24-year-old’s showing, while also showing appreciation for the attitude that he showed during the 90 minutes and his interview after the game.

With his contract coming to an end in the summer of 2020, as per Transfermarkt, there are fans who have demanded O’Nien is rewarded with a new contract, while there has also been the suggestion that he should be given the captaincy.
