As well scoring the sole goal of the game that secured a vital three points for the Black Cats against a Southend side desperate for points (per BBC Sport), the 24-year-old midfielder pulled off an audacious nutmeg over Shrimpers defender Nathan Ralph in a game where O’Nien was one of the best players on the pitch.
Phil Parkinson admitted to the Sunderland Echo post-match that O’Nien was ‘excellent’ on the day, and supporters on social media seemed to think so too as fans flocked to Twitter to wax-lyrical about the midfielder’s impressive skill in what was an encouraging performance.
Can Duncan Watmore still come good after his injury hell?
Here’s what some Sunderland fans had to say about O’Nien’s slick nutmeg against the Shrimpers, with plenty of supporters loving what they saw from the 24-year-old midfielder…
Got no work done. Cant stop watching.
