Sunderland must sign this 25-year-old if they want to bounce back to the Premier League

Our Sunderland fans here in the Transfer Tavern really aren’t looking forward to the new season with much excitement at the moment.

The Black Cats’ supporters, in truth, haven’t looked forward to many seasons in recent times and so they can only hope that their side rolls their sleeves up and gets going in the Championship.

That, of course, is easier said than done, though, with the second tier a notoriously competitive division and so the men from the Stadium of Light will have to be ready for a battle.

For sure, then, the Black Cats need to start signing players and we reckon that Stuart Armstrong from Celtic would be a superb statement of intent to bring in.

Certainly, the Wearsiders need to prove a point to their fans that they are serious about getting back into the Premier League and Armstrong would certainly provide that.

He was a real stand out performer for Celtic last season as they strode to domestic domination and his trickery and ability to find space in between the lines is something that Sunderland are surely lacking.

And, in being based in Scotland, he should cost less than a player of his calibre would in England meaning Sunderland shouldn’t need to worry too much about the financial side.

Sunderland, then, need to do something to excite the fans and signing Armstrong would be a superb start.
