Sunderland need a striker and this 27-goal machine will get them back to the Championship

It’s been a tough few years for Sunderland fans but with Jack Ross at the helm, there may finally be some light at the end of the tunnel.

Once a solid Premier League club, Sunderland slumped to last in the Championship table last year. With last season’s dire form in mind, the club has gone under some serious surgery by bringing in Jack Ross as manager and Stewart Donald coming in as the new owner replacing Ellis Short.

A few players will likely be leaving the club this summer but one they should be seriously considering is Peterborough’s hotshot striker, Jack Marriot.

In partnership with Marcus Maddison, Marriot formed one of the most deadly partnerships in English football. The pair scored 35 goals for the Posh last season and will be attracting plenty of interest this summer. As League One’s leading scorer, Marriot is hot property and although he will likely leave the club, Sunderland will have to pay big money to get him as confirmed by the club’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony.

At only 23, the striker still has a few years to go before he even hits his prime and could well be tempted to a move to a club the size of Sunderland. In the Black Cats’ case, it’s still unsure if Joel Asoro or Josh Maja will move on after rejecting new deals to stay at the club.

It will take a big bid but if Sunderland signed Marriot, they’d be getting a quick striker who makes great runs, finishes well and is also a bit of a fox in the box.

What do you reckon Sunderland fans?
