Sunderland have gotten off to an utterly terrible start to life in the Championship following their relegation from the top flight, and already look in danger of back to back relegation’s.
The Black Cats opted to appointed Simon Grayson in the summer, and while fans here in the Tavern were impressed with the announcement, it’s safe to say that things are not going as planned for the former Leeds and Preston manager so far.
A run of miserable home defeats to Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest have done little to lighten the mood at the Stadium of Light over the last seven days, but our landlord thinks that the club need to stick with Grayson.
Taking over a club who went down with such a whimper is never going to be an easy task, and with other factors affecting the club such as budget constraints, high earners, and players not wanting to be there, Grayson has a tough job on his hands.
However, he does have the experience and know-how to turn things around for Sunderland. His spells with Leeds and Preston have demonstrated his ability as a manager in this league, and he can certainly get the job done with Sunderland if given time.
His summer signings have not quite yet paid off, but there is still time. Sunderland need to gain some momentum, and need to get some wins on the board as soon as possible. If they can do this, there’s every chance Grayson can keep them riding the crest of the wave and lead them to a steady season away from relegation panic.
Sunderland fans, what do you think? Should you keep hold of Grayson? Let us know!
