Jack Ross is believed to be keen to add a striker to his Sunderland squad this winter as they continue in their efforts to win promotion to the Championship.
Will Grigg has been linked with a move to the Black Cats in the past, however, the Wearside outfit have had two offers already knocked back by Wigan Athletic.
The 27-year-old is thought to be Ross’ main attacking target this January and it is understood that a move for the proven League One striker is not linked to the current situation that the club find themselves in with Josh Maja.
The 20-year-old’s contract is up in the summer and he has rejected a new contract to extend his stay with the Stadium of Light outfit.
Maja has a number of clubs interested in securing his services, however, Ross is reluctant to sell him this month.
Sunderland appear to be very keen to land Grigg and he would be considered an excellent coup for the Black Cats.
The Northern Ireland international has a proven goalscoring record in League One and that could help the club obtain Championship football next season.
The news regarding Maja will still be concerning, but with it not being linked, there is a chance that he will still be at the club once January is over.
