As reported by ClubCall, Sunderland midfielder Jan Kirchhoff has not picked up another injury and is still on course for an imminent return to the side after fears he’d suffered a setback.
Our resident Black Cats fans here in the Transfer Tavern were worried after the enforcer was left out of the latest U23 squad earlier this week, because he had received another fitness issue but it was in fact down to a stomach bug.
The report suggests, then, that the player could be in contention to feature for the club in their latest fixture against Leicester City this weekend though it does remain to be seen whether David Moyes deems him ready.
Kirchhoff became a fan favourite last season thanks to his dominant performances in the centre of the pitch as the club once again fought off relegation and so, with them looking to do the same this season, he’ll undoubtedly be key once he’s up to speed.
The north east side did lose last time out against Liverpool but performed admirably, and the feeling here by the bar is that if they can do that again this time around three points could be theirs.
How big a boost will Kirchhoff’s return be Sunderland fans? Let us know below!
