Sunderland remaining confident of securing important deal with season close

Our Sunderland fans here in the Transfer Tavern are feeling hopeful about how their season could go this year.

The men from the Stadium of Light have had a tough few seasons but have the chance to rebuild and start again in the Championship under Simon Grayson.

Indeed, the former Preston manager was appointed with the idea in mind that he’s the kind of man who can get results in tough situations and fans will certainly hope that comes to pass.

And, with just under a month left of the market, now, it appears Grayson is still hopeful of more signings with Chronicle Live saying that goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter could sign on.

The goalkeeper was on trial with Sunderland and was offered a contract at the end of the period but has yet to sign on with Burnley also thought to be keen.

However, Grayson is remaining confident that the club can manage to sign the stopper on for the new campaign and he’ll be hoping to do just that before the new campaign begins this weekend.

Landlord’s Verdict

Jason Steele endured a tough old time of things at the weekend as Celtic beat them 5-0 and that could just see Ruiter become the number 1 if he does sign.

The lure of Burnley and the Premier League could be tempting, though, but with Tom Heaton in goal he’s more likely to play more in the north east.
