Sunderland scout watches Billy Sharp during friendly

Sunderland will be looking to continue to add to their squad this summer as they look to begin a revival of the club’s fortunes.

The Black Cats will be feeling a sense of confidence at the Stadium of Light now following the arrival of a new owner and manager at the helm, as they prepare to get out of League One and bounce back to the Championship.

Jack Ross was given the task of restoring the pride to Sunderland this season and has already been active in the transfer market, making six signings already, however, it is understood that he has plenty more on his radar.

According to a report in The Star, the club’s head of recruitment, Tony Coton, was in attendance during Sheffield United’s pre-season friendly with Bradford City to watch Charlie Wyke and possibly one other.

The report claims that he also had an eye on the Blade’s Billy Sharp, amid rumours that the Black Cats have been monitoring the 32-year-old.

The Verdict:

Sharp has been a proven goalscorer up and down the country with the clubs he has been at and especially in League One, where has scored over 100 goals during his time with Sheffield United and Scunthorpe United.

However, Sunderland could face some difficulty in luring the forward away from Bramall Lane as he has previously stated that he does not have any intention of leaving again in the future.
