Sunderland weighing up deal for potential Pickford replacement

Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern are intrigued to see whether their club will permanently sign Dutch goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter ahead of the new season.

Ruitar is currently a free agent after being released by Utrecht last season despite playing 15 times for the Eredivisie side and the 30-year-old has joined Sunderland on trial for the time being, as being reported by Sky Sports.

The Black Cats have already let go Jordan Pickford this summer, selling him to Everton for an impressive £30 million fee.

His back-up Vito Mannone has also departed the club having signed for Reading for £2 million as well on Wednesday.

Both the departures of Pickford and Mannone have left the Black Cats worryingly short in between the sticks with just two keepers now at the club, and the Sunderland fans at the bar have been left scratching their head as to who’s going to being their new first-choice keeper.

Portuguese keeper Mika remains but hasn’t played a single game for the team and Polishman Maksymilian Stryjek is the only other option for the No.1 jersey.

However, punters would like to see a more established option than one of those for the forthcoming season in the Championship.

What do you think, Sunderland fans? Is Robbin Ruiter good enough to take over from Jordan Pickford?
