As quoted by The Shields Gazette, Sunderland forward Victor Anichebe has said that he feels Jordan Pickford could be the number one goalkeeper for England in the the future, with our resident Black Cats fans here in the Transfer Tavern certainly agreeing.
Pickford has impressed this season in between the sticks for the men from the north east despite their poor form and has reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United and Tottenham in the process.
It’ll come as no surprise to Anichebe, though, who describes the young stopper as “phenomenal.”
The striker only joined the club earlier this season but already seem to have a fair idea of where Pickford’s future could be heading.
“Jordan, you can all see is a top young goalkeeper. Some of the saves he makes and his distribution; it is incredible”, said the former Everton ace.
”He is probably one of the best young keepers I have seen and I have seen a lot of good, young keepers. John Ruddy, when I was younger.
”He is a phenomenal keeper and if he can keep his feet on the ground, continue to work hard then he will one day become England’s No 1.”
Pickford has impressed enough to suggest that Vito Mannone will find it hard to get back into the side now he is returning to full fitness and our local Sunderland fans certainly hope they can keep hold of their local hero for a little while longer yet.
