Sunderland struggling to offload Lamina Kone

Sunderland struggling to offload Lamina Kone

Sunderland have been busy in the transfer market this summer, however, they are still desperate to make a number of changes to their side.

The Black Cats have been preparing for their upcoming League One campaign with a number of additions, which has included a new manager in Jack Ross, however, there are concerns that a number of players still remain at the club on high wages.

One of those players is Lamina Kone and despite interest in the centre-back, it appears a move could be difficult to happen even though Sunderland want to offload him.

According to a report by 61Saat, Trabzonspor have been priced out of a move for the 29-year-old as the Black Cats want to recoup the £6million they paid for him in January 2016 from Lorient.

The Turkish outfit are thought to have already held talks with Kone about a move and things looked to be heading in a positive direction, however, with a restricted transfer budget and Sunderland’s refusal to reduce the asking price is making it a seemingly difficult task.

The Verdict:

Kone is thought to have wanted to leave the club since the summer of 2016, however, he still remains at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland will need to reduce their asking price if they do want to offload him, otherwise, they will need to continue to pay his huge wage demands.

He has failed to replicate the form he showed in his first six months with the club and it would be ideal for everyone involved if he finally did leave Wearside.
