As reported by The Daily Mail, Duncan Watmore will be out for the rest of the season for Sunderland after going off at the weekend in the win against Leicester City.
Our Black Cats fans here in the Transfer Tavern had started to feel more positive about this campaign after winning games against Foxes, Bournemouth and Hull City recently but they’re now slightly worried about the impact of this news.
Indeed, Watmore has been one of their most exciting talents in recent times with his willingness to attack full backs and dribble his way out of tight spaces.
He’s been a big part of the team’s recent change in fortunes, too, but it now appears he’ll have no more part to play in their battle for survival this year.
He injured his knee in a challenge with Leicester’s Christian Fuchs at the weekend which a scan then revealed had seen him damage his cruciate ligaments according to the report.
Typically that’s an injury that causes a large lay-off and it seems that’s what Watmore is facing now for the rest of the campaign.
Our landlord thinks he’ll be a miss but still believes the Black Cats will stay up.
How big a blow will Watmore be Sunderland fans? Let us know below!
