Sunderland team news: Ross without 14 first-teamers - Latest News

Sunderland will be preparing for their Checkatrade Trophy fixture against Carlisle United on Tuesday night at the Stadium of Light.

However, according to the club’s official website, Jack Ross will be without 14 players for the game against the League Two outfit, revealing he will only have around 10 first-team members available.

The Black Cats have Jon McLaughlin, Bryan Oviedo, Tom Flanagan and Bali Mumba who are all with their respective nations.

Max Power will be unavailable for the tie as he serves his second suspension of the season following his red card against Bradford City at the weekend.

Josh Maja, Jerome Sinclair and Lee Cattermole are not thought to be risked as they have all been playing with slight knocks.

Glenn Loovens, Charlie Wyke, Duncan Watmore, Lynden Gooch and Denver Hume are all still on the sidelines.

The Verdict:

Sunderland will know a win against Carlisle will put them in pole position within the group stage of the tournament.

However, Ross’ side’s chances will not have been helped with the number of players that he has unavailable for the tie.

The game could be a great opportunity for some of the younger players to step up and make an impression in the absence of the experienced first-teamers.
