Sunderland will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the League One season when they meet Rochdale at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.
The Black Cats were beaten by Burton Albion last time out and Jack Ross will be hoping a recurrence of that result does not happen again.
Charlie Wyke will be absent for around three months with a knee injury he picked up during the defeat at the Pirelli Stadium.
The striker, who had only just recovered from a similar problem, could be a big blow for Ross’ side as his attacking options appear to be slim.
However, there will be some positive news for the Black Cats as Josh Maja is expected to feature after he missed training with a knock.
The young forward has been in fine form already this season when covering Wyke’s absence and will look to continue where he left off.
Dylan McGeouch will also be a welcome boost for the Stadium of Light outfit as he made a return to training earlier in the week and is available for selection.
Ross will be looking for a reaction from his side after they picked up their first defeat of the season last time out.
Things will not have been helped with the absence of Wyke, as he was expected to be the man to help get the Black Cats out of League One and back into the Championship.
However, he will have been boosted by the fact that Maja and McGeouch are both available and will feel confident his side can get a result mid-table Rochdale on Saturday.
