Jon McLaughlin has been a player heavily criticised by Sunderland supporters this season, and Saturday didn’t do the 32-year-old goalkeeper any favours in the FA Cup.
46′ Goal. Gillingham.

The Scottish international was at fault for Gillingham’s route back into the game, with McLaughlin spilling an Olly Lee free-kick from close-range which saw the ‘keeper drop the ball and seeing it roll through his legs and across the line to make the score 1-1 (per BBC Sport), forcing Sunderland into a replay against their League One counterparts.
As expected, some Sunderland fans on social media were fuming with McLaughlin’s costly mistake, with supporters on social media slamming the 32-year-old shot-stopper who has been a constant source of frustration for the Black Cats faithful this season.
Happy Jack Ross has gone?
Here’s what some Sunderland supporters had to say on Twitter about McLaughlin’s mistake, with some fans saying that the ‘keeper should be dropped from the XI after his error against Gillingham cost the northeast side progression to the second round of the FA Cup…
Any fans who rate McLaughlin think again only 3 or 4 stand out performances he’s had for us his kicking is awful decision making useless especially when coming off his line and takes like 10 years to throw the ball out when’s theirs a potentially break on
