Sunderland weigh up Premier League veteran as Allardyce replacement

The Sunderland fans who are gathered at the bar in The Football Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing news that the club have sounded out a new manager.

According to a report in The Telegraph the Premier League side have sounded out the possibility of appointing David Moyes as the club’s new manager.

Speculation persists that Sam Allardyce is set to be offered the England job following talks with The FA selection panel, and Sunderland are eager to appoint a new manager swiftly.

The club told The FA that they want negotiations between their current boss and the board to be swift so they can put plans in place for a replacement.

The Black Cats have made the former Man United and Everton manager, David Moyes, their top target and have made enquiries to his representative as to whether or not he would be interested in taking the reigns at the Stadium Of Light.

Moyes has been out of work since being dismissed by La Liga side, Real Sociedad last November and had been most recently linked to taking over at Aston Villa before they decided to appoint Roberto Di Matteo.

Sunderland fans, we want to hear from you! What do you make of the speculation around Big Sam? Would Moyes be a good replacement? Let us know below…
