The Sunderland fans who are gathered around the jukebox in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports linking the club with a move for a Premier League winner.

According to reports in the Leicester Mercury the Wearside outfit are interested in taking Danny Simpson to the Stadium Of Light this summer.

The defender started 30 of the Foxes’ 38 Premier League games last season and is beginning to consider his future at the club as the club have not been forthcoming with an offer of a new deal at the King Power Stadium.

The Black Cats are in the market for defensive reinforcements for next season as they are eager to avoid another relegation scrap next season and are said to be weighing up a £4m offer for the 29 year old.

Simpson is no stranger to the Sunderland fans having spent half a season on loan with the club during the 2006-07 season, while he also played for Newcastle United earlier in his career.

The defender has been with Leicester for two season’s and has made 48 appearances for the club.
