Sunderland fans here in the Tavern will be looking for their side to secure promotion straight back to the Championship. Although, Jack Ross will need to make a couple of signings before the end of this month, with a number of players possibly departing.
Jack Ross will be looking to hit the ground running at the Stadium of Light after being appointed as Chris Coleman’s successor. The Black Cats may find it tricky to secure promotion if they don’t manage to strengthen this summer, as almost every team will have their eyes set firmly on strengthening in order to enjoy promotion.
Although, with Jack Ross already having a pretty strong squad at his disposal, landing a couple of quality players this month could hand him the League One title.
So without further ado, Sunderland will seal the title in June if Ross makes these TWO signings…
Bringing Grant Leadbitter back to the Stadium of Light is a no-brainer. The 32-year-old has made a real success of his time on Teesside and whilst he’s not played as much as he might have perhaps liked since Tony Pulis arrived, he’s still a capable midfielder and, most importantly, is a leader.
Indeed, Leadbitter is an experienced campaigner in the Football League, with a return to his boyhood club possibly tempting him as he doesn’t have much time left in his career.
The central midfielder can still have a positive impact in the final third and is a penalty expert. And, with the worrying position that The Black Cats currently find themselves in, he could be the man to help them secure promotion back to the Championship next season.
Ross Wallace is currently a free agent following his release from Championship side Sheffield Wednesday. The 32-year-old still has plenty of life left in him and could look to drop down to League One to play for the club that he made a name for himself at.
The experienced wide man would be able to enjoy regular first-team football at the Stadium of Light next season and could play a big part in their promotion push.
So, with Sunderland already having a rather young squad, Jack Ross could look to make use of Wallace’s wisdom in League One next season.
