Sunderland will be feeling quietly confident about their chances of promotion this term after a run of just one defeat in 13 league games leaves them three points off the automatic spots.
To their advantage, they also have a game in hand over some of the teams placed above them, and trips to Coventry and Rotherham mean that promotion is firmly in their hands. Phil Parkinson has turned the team’s fortunes around in remarkable fashion after winning just two of his first 14 Sunderland games, and it is fair to say that he has proved his doubters wrong.
Sunderland fans are willing to accept that fact and now hold a different view of the Black Cats boss but there are still some that won’t be satisfied with Parkinson unless he delivers promotion.
There is a lot of pressure on the club and the management to return to the Championship but the signs are positive right now. A trip to Coventry at the beginning of March will be a real test, but if the north-east outfit overcomes that then there could be even more belief in the job Parkinson is overseeing.
Has Phil Parkinson done enough to convince you Sunderland are going up?
Here is some of the discussion taking place about the main man in the dugout.
Yes for me need promotion another failure otherwise.
Best defence we had in a long time full credit PP

Backed him from the start! Was the right man for us and Donald needs some credit for bringing him in.

Let’s see at the end of the season… it’s very tight in the top 10 and one or two results not going out way will have the league looking very different

And if Parkinson now appears to have been the correct decision to replace Ross, will Donald get any credit?

Reminiscent of Allardyce. Started off by sorting out the defence. Transformed attitudes, made us hard to beat
