Time is running out for Sunderland to finally get rid of one of their men this summer.
The Black Cats have been in the unfortunate position whereby they have had a couple of players turn around and say that they do not want to play for the club any more.
Jack Ross’ side managed to finally get rid of Papy Djilobodji after sacking him from his contract last week, however, they still have Didier Ndong on the books, a man desperate for a move away from the League One outfit.
Benfica were once credited with an interest in the 24-year-old, who has not since returned to Sunderland following the summer break, however, those links appear to have cooled.
With time quickly running out and no concrete interest in Ndong, the player could find himself in the same situation as Djilobodji.
The centre-back did not manage to get his desired move away from the club and was unceremoniously sacked for failing to meet the terms of his contract, something the Gabon international could face from the club as well.
The midfielder and Sunderland will be hoping Benfica, or even another Portuguese side, will come in with an offer in the final hours of the window, however, at this moment, he could be remaining at the Stadium of Light.
