Portsmouth currently find themselves leading the way in the race for the League One title, while Sunderland are slowly dropping off the pace in third position.
Pompey have defied expectations under Kenny Jackett this season and are currently heading towards securing the League One title. Meanwhile, the Black Cats have been rather impressive under the guidance of Jack Ross, but turning one point into three has been a real issue at times.
Of course, Portsmouth and Sunderland will no doubt be in the race for automatic promotion right the way until the end of the season, so we took a look at Gareth Evans and Aiden McGeady’s influence at their respective clubs.
With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…
Gareth Evans is enjoying arguably his best season at Fratton Park since joining as a free agent back in 2015. He really has proved to be a gem signing for Pompey, with nine goals and five assists to his name at this moment in time.
The versatile midfielder has caused all sorts of problems for the opposition this season and will continue to play a huge part in Portsmouth’s promotion push.
TT GRADE: A-
Aiden McGeady has always been a consistent performer since moving to the Stadium of Light for a bargain fee of £500,000 back in July of 2017.
The winger has suffered from an injury already this season but he has since made up for it as he currently has seven goals and six assists to his name.
So, with Sunderland still chasing down an automatic promotion place, the 32-year-old will have a big part to play.
TT GRADE: A-
When comparing these two it’s difficult to separate them, as Gareth Evans has been simply sensational in Portsmouth’s promotion push this season, while Aiden McGeady is constantly grinding out impressive performances at the Stadium of Light.
Evans has been one of many standout performers for Pompey this season, and his goals and assists have helped secure points in a number of games.
Meanwhile, McGeady has established himself as one of the most dangerous attackers in League One this season by producing valuable contributions consistently.
Both players have been influential this season and continue to thrive in their respective clubs promotion race, so it’s too difficult to separate them at this moment in time.
