Sunderland’s win against Tranmere Rovers will be remembered for the attacking threat they carried, as Phil Parkinson’s side went on to reach an emphatic 5-0 scoreline.
However, there was also plenty of defensive solidity on show from the Black Cats, as they went on to keep their first clean sheet of the season, as per Transfermarkt, with Jordan Willis being a central part of this.
Parkinson will have been hoping for a complete performance, after suffering a 1-0 loss against Wycombe Wanderers in his first game as manager, and that is exactly what he got.
Throughout the game, Willis completed 1 tackle, 1 interception, and 4 clearances, with his clearance tally being the highest of any Sunderland player during the game, as per WhoScored.
In addition to this, the 25-year-old won 9 of his 12 aerial duels, coming out on top in the air on more occasions than anybody else on the pitch.
The main thing it could perhaps be said he needs to improve is his passing, as he was only able to complete 68% of those that he attempted.
Nevertheless, this was a brilliant performance from the centre-back in a game that Parkinson will have been looking for a reaction in.
This should stand him in good stead to carry on being a regular under the new manager, having played every league game this season.
