The Sunderland Echo are reporting that a deal taking Wahbi Khazri away from the Stadium of Light could be completed win the coming weeks, with a return to Ligue 1, where the player impressed on loan last term, an option.
Khazri spent the 2017/18 season plying his trade in France with Stade Rennais on a temporary deal. The move was a success, and Khazri was able to find the net 9 times across 24 Ligue 1 appearances.
Reports suggest that the French outfit would like to retain Khazri’s services, on a permanent basis, but may be priced out of a deal as Sunderland seek to raise funds ahead of life in League One.
If this state of affairs opens the door to Khazri remaining on British shores, then Darren Moore may very well be interested in bringing the 27-year-old to the Hawthorns, and with good reason.
The arrival of the Tunisian star would bring an injection of pace, flair and dynamism into a stale squad. It would also bring joy to fanbase still reeling from relegation but uplifted by the optimism that having Moore in the dugout brings.
Transfermarkt value Khazri at £9 million. Given the Black Cats’ current predicament, he may be available for slightly less as Jack Ross realises a sale is his only realistic option for the player.
Should they remain with the Baggies this summer, the likes of Nacer Chadli, Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez would surely enjoy playing alongside Wahbi Khazri in the Championship this season.
